If you're still looking for a better way to create UML sequence diagram, why not try my Trace Modeler?

Just as with Sequence, you won't have to deal with layout issues : whenever you change a diagram, Trace Modeler will automatically adjust the layout for you. 

It's easy to use, has an innovative direct manipulation UI and supports the commonly used elements on a sequence diagram.

Should you give it a try, let me know if you're missing anything and I'll see what I can do.
